Okays, I think I've decided. I need to go for it fairly soon as I don't have a lot of time around the deadline. And lol, Aeronwen, I wish I could be a dragon! XD I don't have a lot of funds or time right now though, so I'm gonna go for something quite a bit easier.
Artist Name: Tzu
Artworks Name: Nika
Progress probably gonna be slow, but it will come! :P
... If I can't afford a wig in the end I'll probably go as a pimped Seitung A/... >.>'
Just use my real hair and pick a style from the char creation.
EDIT: this version:
not the in-game version:
Oh, and I don't think I'll be entering the contest-part of this workshop if that's alright.
I'd really like to be a part of the workshop just for the sake of posting/seeing progress and giving/receiving CC. X3 Keeps me motivated.

Swanky choice.
As I was waiting for my computer to fix itself from a horrible virus, I might have settled on an idea. I'm dropping the multi war-panel scene. Instead, this one will be a trio of Canthan heroes near the heights of the Kaineng City walls. I might also fit in one of the elder dragons in the background looming over slums.

Charlie: Just curious, if you got BitDefender, then it's not a virus. Cuz I do and ends up being an error in the update. =D I thought both my computers were toast until I looked it up ^^

Nah, it was an annoying trojan that disguised itself as an antivirus program. Extremely annoying pop ups and making my computer lag in general. I kicked it to the side of the curb, so it's all good.
I'll start working on this project maybe later this week or during next week. Mid terms this week so I'll be busy with studio projects and boring papers.

Got some ideas, should be starting soon. Can't decide of which out of 3 idea's I want to try. First idea is some anime style comic picture: "How to scare away evil spirits at New Year" with a guy running of its live screaming like hell because his crate of firework is exploding, with the nians (or evil spritis w/e) being afraid of his screaming. Hope it will actually look funny when I draw it
Second idea is a action scene of 3 canthan dressed people charging towards the viewer with some dragons at the back, to practice some digital paiting, but afraid this idea will rather match Charlie's, so that's a bit of a down thingie.
Last idea was kuunavang digitaly painted as a zodiac, so black BG and yellow/goldish silouette of kuunie, with stars at central points and such. Already tried out that a bit, but damn its gonna be alot of blending.
Like first idea the most I guess, but dont quite got it all figures in my mind of where the viewer should be and where the nians/evil spirits, but I'll get there ^^
Feel free to use any of the ideas mentioned above, if you like them/get inspired by them.

Ooooh nice choice Tzu. That'll be awesome.
And June 15th? Cool, I should have the time to work on something between now and then. Hopefully.
(I kind of just got a new job. So I've got school and two jobs to contend with. However, the new job is completely made of awesome and will be worth it )
And I'm sure I can rustle up something to donate. I'll let you know about that.

hehe, thanks Charlie and Verene! I sure as hell would like to see some dragons in this workshop, the elder dragon idea is really cool, Charlie! :3
Two jobs is two more than most people are getting these days, Verene >.>' GJ keeping busy and earning money, working hard strengthens the spirit! .. and gives you money to spend Q.Q (*doesnt have a job atm* not really looking, but er, you know. I like money.)
Speaking of which, you can lift 100k off me anytime, Tommy. I may pay in ecto, depends what I'm carrying at the time.
Here's some WIP from me to kick things off. Yeah yeah, go ahead and have a good laugh at the masking tape. I can't find my glue-gun, guess I'll have to pick a new one up tomorrow. Before I get stuff glued together properly I can't add details or paint the bits, but I guess these will do as prototypes for now.
Cus I'm on a budget, I'm making as much as I can from scraps, and simplifying my methods. For the daggers I would usually create a mould and cast them in resin or plastic, but I can't spare the money to ship such items from abroad at present, so I'm simply gonna use card, some wooden bits and aliminium tape. I'll show you how when I pick up the aliminium tape, though I'm sure you geniuses figured it out already. For the dagger prototype above I just used duct-tape (and a pencil, lol), to show you a dulled down version of how the base will look.
Now, a question..
As you can see on the ref at the bottom, the daggers have red decorated sheaths. I can make them from fabric, card or foam, but I was thinking of maybe giving it my own twist. how about I decorate the sheaths with red chinese brocade? I can't really decide for myself, I could make the dagger more accurate by going about it the usual way, but chinese brocade could be really sexy. So what are your opinions on this? I hope to pick up whatever materials I need fairly soon.
EDIT: oh and ofc; Any other critique and opinions are super-welcome!

Haha, I usually wind up having to buy a new glue gun every time I start a new costume, they vanish so easily. Thankfully they're dirt cheap.
(and thanks, Tzu - I'm so excited about this new job. It's pretty much my dream. I've just been hired on as a graphic designer for a small independent video game studio )
Also, I would say go with the brocade, personally. Sure, it won't be super-accurate, but it'd definitely be a very personal - not to mention very pretty - touch.

I'd say go with the brocade, that way you can sort of create your own pattern that isn't repeating like in-game version.

Wow great starting Tzu I'll add the 100k to the list. About the brocade, I think it depends on how close the repeating on the patern is (assuming you gonna buy such brocade material, not making it yourself). Cause if you cut out pieces and there is alot of red, and just a tiny bit of cloud or dragon on it, it could look like there is just something accidently on it, if you know what I mean. Or you have enough brocade material to cut out only the nice pieces ofcourse, if that's the case you should go with the brocade imo, gives a more eastern twist to it. Maybe make both and see what looks better? I'm sure you'll find an option to feel with ^^ GL!

Thanks Verene, Charlie and Tommy! I'll see if I can find a chinese brocade fabric with heavy/tight detailing, or a fabric which resembles it. I agree that the wide spaces between ornamentation on most chinese brocade wouldn't look so good on the tiny sheaths of the daggers.
And thanks Raven, but how come you miss cosplay? did you quit? :/
Got a glue gun so I got some things done today, but I was lazy and didnt get *everything* I needed so I didn't get very far... >.>''
Made these ninja feet thingies though.
Sorry about the horrible socks, lol. The thingies on her feet aren't really red, in fact I believe they're studs, but I put some ribbons on 'em cus I figured it'll go well with the dagger sheaths. 83
EDIT: er, those are obviosuly not the socks Ill be using for the costume >.>' just the ones I was wearing today.

I'll throw some of my art in for this. Been debating if I have the time for it or not...but as of right now June should be plenty of time. It will probably be a pencil/colored drawing. I'm no good at anything digital :P

Welcome! Yeah I used to cosplay in my home country until I moved to the US and I don't have my sister and my cousin to group up with. My last cosplay was Lulu from FFX (Cousin was Tidus and sister was Rikku. We won best group and I won second place..it was like a parting gift from cosplay lol).
I also cosplayed Rinoa Heartilly before (although I really wanted Quistis) and a few others.
Yay for clean socks! Although I think the socks need to be a bit more lavander than blue green?

lol, yeah the socks really are horrible. And uhm, I didn't say cus I thought it would be obvious, but perhaps it isn't; those aren't the socks I'll be using for the costume >.>''
wut, Raven, isn't the US huge on cosplay? Even if you had no-one to go with, I'm sure it would be easy enough to have fun cosplaying on events as big as those they arrange over there. Quistis is severely under-cosplayed, but I can see how you'd fit Rinoa really well. :3

I've been a bit sick this past week, which just so happened to be my spring break. Not much work being done on art up until earlier today. With any luck, I might be able to post the finished piece later this weekend or sometime by next week.

Gratz on the job Varene, that sounds really exciting. Will we be able to see any of your work?
Nice start Tzu, where is the reference piccy from? You wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley!
Looking forward to seeing everyone else's progress
